Getting Off On the Right Foot.

When running bases you want to make sure to keep your center of gravity low so you can explode off of the base.  Keep your plant foot on the front portion of the base so that when you are timing your departure you can push off of the base with everything you have.  Your landing/lead foot should be centered on the side of the base.  As the pitcher begins her motion, rock back to your right foot.  When her arm begins the Windmill motion you should then begin rocking your body weight forward.  Keep your eye on the pitchers arm so that you are leaving the base at the very same second the ball is leaving her hand.

Always make sure that you explode off of the base...  The first three steps of your sprint are very important.  Make sure to take big explosive steps.  Keep your body low.  After your first three steps, your head hips, legs and arms should all be pointed forward in the direction you are traveling.

As you build your speed make sure your cleats are digging into the ground, yet be light on your toes.  Keep your arms pumping.  Be sure to tavel down the quckest path to get to your destination.  The quickest path from point A to point B has been and always will be a straight line.  Always take the straightest path to where you are going.  Now that your body is moving in a straight line be sure to pump your arms forward, then back.  Do not pump your arms across your body.  This is just wasted motion.  Pump your arms straight forward and straight back.  You may make a fist while running but don't clinch them as tight as possible.

As you are moving forward make sure to look forward to keep your eye on the prize and of course be certain to listen for your coaches orders.  If you hear that she/he wants you to take extra bases you will want to "round the bases".  That is another topic so with that said we will end this here and pick up with everyone later.
